Small Steps Forward
Those of you who have been around for a while know that the foundation for my ministry was laid while I served as an adult leader in the youth ministry at Faith Baptist in Winter Haven. A part of that was the Youth Pastor asking our team to read The Purpose Driven Church by Rick Warren. So much of that book hit home with me, and has stayed with me more than any other book I have read.
I bring that up because as he wrote about the growth and development of Saddleback Church Warren says that they learned a lot by trying things that didn't work, and making small steps over time. I didn't fully grasp what he meant as I read it back then, but I get it now. That has become our story as well. We are learning by trying new things and gaining insights from the victories and the failures that we experience. Little by little and year after year God is refining our hearts and we are refining our processes so that we can more effectively reach this community with the Hope of Christ.
We're doing some things this month to help us continue to take those small steps forward. Some are new, some are slight tweaks to what we've done before, and some are a continuation of things that have worked in the past. I hope that you'll take advantage of these opportunities to grow as a team.
Church Council This Sunday Night - This is our monthly leadership meeting. I'm moving this to 6:00 p.m. so that we can have more time to pray, plan, and refine together. Every committee chair and ministry leader needs to be here, but all are welcome to come. Let's dream big for God and work together to make those dreams a reality.
Vision Sunday - This has become one of my favorite annual events. I love the excitement that's in the air as we celebrate what God has already done, and talk about the possibilities that He may have for us in the coming years. This year it is set for January 28th, and I hope that you will make it a priority to be here. Our theme is Shine. We're going to talk about how we can work as a church to Shine the light of Christ brightly in our lives. I can't wait!
Mass Committee Meeting - This is brand new. Honestly, I don't like that name, but I think this is going to become a great annual tradition for us. On Jan 28th at 6:00 p.m. all of our committees are going to meet together. This is going to be an exciting time to welcome those who are serving on our committees for 2018. We'll pray, talk responsibilities, and vote on new committee chairs. We're also going to serve you dinner.
I-Neighborhood - This is going to be a one-day training event that focuses on loving and serving your circle of influence so that you can gain the opportunity to share Christ with them. I've presented the idea to our leaders and they are on board, excited, and ready to go. I'm sure you will be too. Please add Saturday, March 3rd (8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.), to your calendar and be in prayer for this crucial training event as well as our implementation of what we learn.
As you can see, we're kicking the year off with some great opportunities to grow and develop as Christ-followers. We're taking a few more steps forward as a church. I pray that God will use this in our lives to make this our greatest ministry year yet. Here we go!
