Fruits of the Spirit, Mid-Week Devotional with Chris Chase
"The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control." (Galatians 5:22-23) There is not a person that hasn't lost their temper only to regret it later. Every person has allowed their schedule to get overloaded to the point of looking back and realizing that they have not stopped much, if at all, to pray. We've all eaten too much at some point even when we said we wouldn't. And who hasn't lost that old battle with lust or greed or materialism or envy? There is a solution to this daily dilemma. It's called "self-control." That's the answer. That is the key. It means discipline . . . inner strength. The fruit of the Spirit is self-control. Self-control frees us from slavery. It stops us from bad habits. It checks us. It halts us. We need to exercise using self-control every single day of our lives!
Practice it when you are young some of us learn the hard way and it takes years
A lot of it is to think before you speak.
